We lost our mom to breast cancer, she was 68.  However, my3 Inspiring Reasons, Why You Need Grow up and Take Over you Elderly Parents Health Care Decisions, Even if They Don’t Want You To! dad’s health has always been good, with minor visits to the doctor.   Unfortunately, when you have a healthy parent, they don’t see the reason, why they need medical care.  You are dealing with a stubborn person, and it’s hard for me (the son) to keep his cool and take him to the doctor and keep his health insurance up.  Just a year ago his insurance was not paid, and left without insurance for the rest of the year.  My dad was indifferent to the matter, but I was furious and we had to wait for October 15, and new signup!

My pop could not understand, why health insurance was so important and it really was cheap. He already has Medicare, so what the F*&!.   He basically ignored me.  The more details I gave him, the more, he would just change the subject, and I would just get pissed!  I changed my strategy, and pursued on getting Health insurance for my aging father, and learned the following 3 Reasons, Why You Need Grow up and Take Over you Elderly Parents Health Care Decisions, Even if They Don’t Want You To!

A 2009 Harvard study, states 62.1 % of all bankruptcies Elderly Parents Health Care Decisions(877,372) came from medical bills. The study included medical bills of over $1,000.  In a separate study in 2015,   The Kaiser Family Foundation concluded the medical health made an estimated 1.0 million adults to declare bankruptcy. In addition, is states 26% of “Americans ages 18-64 struggled to pay medical bills” or about 52 million adults.

An other jawdropping statistic from Debt.org in 2017, “Even with assistance from Medicare, the average 65-year-old couple faces $275,000 in medical bills during retirement.” The impact of medical bills translates into bankruptcy or the loss of a house for many Americans.  Many Americans lose their homes due to medical bills.

Fortunately, my dad has been healthy. He was very stubborn and we argued constantly.  One day decided to call a health care provider to hook us up using his Medicare.  I put him on the spot and stepped into the call now and then, and signed him up!  I hope we may never have to use the insurance, but I’m glad he has it.

Reason #2: Over Spending: We Become Forgetful and Own More of Everything! Elderly Parents Health Care Decisions

As we get older we are forgetful, but still buy the same stuff, and end up with a dozen eye glasses, extra prescriptions, and other extra stuff.  I really hate going through my dad’s stuff, but I have too make sure he does not over buy, and if he is missing medicine.  At the end it adds up!
